If you have a Kodak Slide Projector (Carousel or Ektagraphic) in which turning the FOCUS KNOB does not move the projection lens, then you probably have a defective focus pinion gear (FPG) , a problem which sometimes occurs in these projectors. This Focus Pinion Gear Replacement Kit contains all you need to restore your projector to proper health. The kit includes a new, improved (made in the USA) focus pinion gear, installation aids and step-by-step, color picture illustrated instructions for disassembly, replacement installation and reassembly.. The complete Kit sells for $17.50 (+ $4.00 S/H) which is a fraction of the price that a camera repair facility charges to perform the repair. (To repair additional projectors, you’ll just need additional focus pinion gears at $6.00 each.) When ordering, use ebay’s or Paypal’s ADD MESSAGE prompt to let me know which model Kodak projector(s) you’ll be repairing. The focus pinion gear is on the same shaft as the FOCUS KNOB and engages the teeth on the side of the projection lens to move it in and out. When this gear fails (usually by cracking or splitting), then neither the manual focus (using the FOCUS KNOB) nor any remote or autofocus features will function. To determine if your focus pinion gear is defective, remove the projection lens (by pushing aside the FOCUS KNOB and extracting the lens) and perform the QUICK TEST. While it’s easy to see the focus pinion gear thru the front lens opening, getting to it to replace it is somewhat tricky because some chassis disassembly is involved. This repair job is not for the mechanically impaired! If you have problems assembling a child’s bicycle or putting together your gas grill, this procedure which involves some disassembly and small parts handling and positioning may not be for you. Instead, you can email me and ask about my MAIL-IN TuneUp/Repair service. On the other hand, if you enjoy bent nail puzzles and have rebuilt a carburetor, you can successfully undertake this repair by following the detailed, step-by-step procedures illustrated with color pictures. (See FPG Kit contents below.) For tools, you’ll need a medium size Phillips screwdriver, long nose pliers and a ¼” nutdriver.
